A couple years ago, I was asked “why” I did what I did. At that time, I had just come back from maternity leave with my son who was about 3 months old and our daughter was about 2 1/2 years old. My husband is awesome but we both were starved for sleep and time. I had an amazing opportunity to grow in knowledge and experience through the company for whom I was currently working but I felt as though I needed more. My “why” looking back is still my same why today – Why did I become a physical therapist? Why am I still practicing as a PT? Why do I do what I do? Here was my short answer from over four years ago and it still stands true – this is why I am taking this leap of faith and am starting my own practice.
“I believe in giving people something they need (health and healing) by providing the best care I can. I believe in educating people and patients to improve their knowledge and empower them to take care of themselves. I believe people deserve better treatment and help where other providers do not or do not know how…I believe I am called to be compassionate and empathetic.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4 NIV
“For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought when I graduated PT school with that diploma I would be here now. I want and need flexibility. I want to give my patients what they need, not what the clock is saying they need based on the next patients appointment. I want to allow patients to experience true healthcare where we put the “care” back into the equation – not treating them like a number, timeframe, stat, or rate.
My passion is for people to get better and learn how to help themselves. I want to empower patients, not “fix” them. We are not in the business of fixing; we are in the business to show patients or people how to take control of their own futures with knowledge and conservative options. I started Priority Physical Therapy, LLC with the hopes of treating people like people, spending the time I need with the family, and honestly trying to obey what I felt God was calling me to do.
I want people to talk about issues and address them and not take no or just a pill for an answer. We have more power than we realize. We are our own worst enemy and self doubt is crippling.
Join me in changing the medical model to make Physical Therapy a first line of defense for musculoskeletal issues.
Join me in empowering women and men to live pain-free and promote health and healing. Thank you.
