Megan McLain PT. I am a Georgia native and reside in Jonesboro, GA. I have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Samford University in Birmingham, AL, and I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Mercer University here in Atlanta. I wanted to build a practice that values providing patients with one on one care even in your office, home, or other preferred location. I am excited to have partnered with Ashley Irvin to make this happen. I have a passion for helping people with orthopedic injuries get back to doing what they love. I firmly believe in providing holistic care that addresses all aspects that could be impacting your pain experience. We want to be a resource for people to reach their personal goals with us every step of the way. I enjoy hiking, competitive swimming, and biking. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, including my dog, Marlie.
Neck pain/ Headaches/ Post Concussion
A thorough evaluation will determine specifically what is leading to your symptoms. Typically, a treatment plan for neck pain will improve with manual therapy, including trigger point release techniques to alleviate tension. We assess your posture and ergonomics, especially while performing work duties or other sustained tasks. We also treat migraine and other chronic headaches and address issues in the neck that could be contributing.
As for concussions, if you had a head injury either from a car accident or a sports injury, or even a fall, we can help. We address your deficits and focus on cognitive and behavioral activation to help manage and resolve your symptoms. You do not have to live in your limitations, and you can heal. The brain is a powerful thing.
Vertigo/ Balance deficits
The ability to balance and hold yourself erect without issue is a full-body effort, requiring the support of your inner ears and eyes, your muscles and joints, your nervous system, and last but not least, your cognitive function. We help correct deficits in any of these areas. Ever feel dizzy or feel you are on a tilt a whirl? This is an inner ear problem. We will assess your 3 canals of your inner ear to see which crystals are dislodged that are causing your symptoms. We use exercises, massage therapy to the neck, and perform specific maneuvers to return those crystals causing symptoms to their home.
Upper Limb (Arm)
Shoulder pain can be involved in rotator cuff strains/tears, frozen shoulder, and shoulder dislocation. Strains can also occur when structures are stressed excessively. We will assess your movement and break down any issues found. We address them with manual therapy, stretching, and proper strengthening to gain back function. There are a number of causes for wrist and hand pain, including carpal tunnel syndrome. There are overstressed structures from repetitive tasks leading to elbow pain such as tennis elbow, dislocated elbow, golfer’s elbow, osteoarthritis, sprains, strains, arthritis, and tendinitis. We get to the source and calm down the inflammation and strained structures to allow proper strengthening.
Back Pain
Sciatic pain got you down? Limited by doing what you want due to low back pain? You are not alone!
Megan McLain PT can problem solve and find solutions for you. It’s a safe, cost-effective, drug-free, and non-invasive approach to giving you back your freedom. We use massage during manual therapy, stretching, proper strengthening to allow your body to find its balance.
Lower Limb (Leg)
The hip and knee are the largest joints in the body. They take a beating and the joint can get worn down with age or usage. There may be swelling, stiffness, instability, popping noises, or the inability to fully straighten the knee or hip resulting in needing our services to facilitate proper symmetry. Both hip and knee pain can be persistent and limit mobility and activities usually resulting in surgery to fix the issues. We deal with your ACL, meniscus repairs, and arthritis to allow the body to gain back its balance so you can continue living your active life.
There are a lot of factors that can influence foot pain. From footwear choices, to how many steps you typically take in a day, your feet do a lot of work. The ankle and foot need some tender loving care, and if there are issues here, they can affect your whole body. You have to build your body and stability from the ground up. We can address your Achilles tendon rupture, flat feet, or strains and tears of ligaments as well. We will help you build a solid foundation.
Neurological
Megan McLain PT can treat anyone with movement difficulties due to an injury or disease of the nervous system. If you are suffering from the continued impact of a Stroke, MS, or Parkinson’s, we are here to help. We will assess and progress as appropriate per your level of function. That’s our goal, one step at a time.
Wellness / Sports Training
Let us help assess your movements to determine any movement patterns that may not be serving you. We are here to help train you and be more mindful of proper body mechanics. All of our programs include an assessment of your current movement strategies to determine what is causing you to have limitations in your daily life. Our philosophy is that in order to get the best results, we need to address you as an entire person, and not just the “problem area.”
Whatever your goal, you can accomplish it by finding your inner athlete safely and without the risk of re-injury. Do you feel you just need some insight on proper exercises or a review of an old injury? We are here for you. Want an exercise routine to properly work out a certain body part? We’ve got you covered.
